Classic Ballet Versus Contemporary Ballet

Ballet has been a traditional dance form for centuries and has also metamorphosis into modern art forms, and in the 19th century, it actually reflects some of the social changes that can be seen in ballerinas such as Genevieve Goslin, Fanny Essler, and Marie Taglioni..

While ballet slippers are not necessarily new, the new support added has a allowed point work, or toe work, to become the newest form of ballet.

While the Russian ballet was performing socialistic realistic pieces under typical 19th-century Soviet rule, many of the dance pieces were being seen the world over. Romeo and Juliet, The Flames of Paris, Cinderella, and many other ballet pieces are well known. Once the Soviet Union's government collapsed, these particular types of ballet pieces gained momentum and recognition. Traveling Russian Ballet's became a well known ballet because of the contemporary Russian ballerinas. Many of these Russian ballet's featured prima donnas, such as Natalya Dudinskya and Galina Ulanove and their names actually became household words.

Since the 1920s innovative ballet dancers came to the United States from Russia, and even Germany in order to pursue their craft. Well-known names such as Martha Graham, as well as Doris Humphrey became known for their expressive movement, amid the classic dances. You'll also see Mary Wigman of Germany, who toured with different groups and was well known for her intimately choreographed contemporary ballet.

Modern dance incorporated traditional ballet moves along with the movements of contemporary art forms. As the basics for most modern dance forms, ballet has had its own metamorphosis amid modern dance enthusiasts, instead of telling stories many modern ballets will also dance to the music flow instead of just a story.

An upsurge in popularity during the 1960s gave ballet, a social stigma of higher class. Enjoyment of ballet became almost as popular as other sports and theater. Many music beginning such as rock 'n roll, jazz and pop music began their popularity among the producers and audiences of traditional ballet.

In contemporary ballet repertoires today, you'll see a wide variety of reproductions of old classics, modern dance routines, experimental dance, as well as traditional ballet dance moves and performances.

Whether it's traditional ballet, or contemporary ballet, the movements belonging to the dance itself take years to accomplish. Many small-town dance troupes enjoy beginners to advanced within the same lesson group and movements are adjusted to the group itself. Many of these contemporary ballet companies not only perform in their own town, but also go on tours throughout the nation and the world. A wonderful opportunity to see a bit of tradition along with contemporary art forms when heading to a ballet performance.
